Report This is how a pay raise could change your life

Report This is the way an increase in salary could transform you Report This is the manner by which an increase in salary could completely change you There is basically no possible circumstance in which an increase in salary doesn't sound decent. Except if Effie Trinket says here's a 15% yearly raise and coincidentally, welcome to the Hunger Games, a great many people would seize the chance to have some additional mixture in their ledgers. Truth be told, there are certainly individuals who would happily take the raise, significantly under those circumstances. But our neighbors over the lake have terrible news: The UK's Direct Line Life Insurance did some exploration, and it turns out a raise won't mean as a lot to you as you might suspect it will. For the greater part of the UK laborers investigated, the additional cushioning they got was caught up in as meager as three months.Analysis shows UK workers, who have gotten a compensation ascend inside the most recent five years, take on normal only a month and a half to 'level up' their ways of managing money in the wake of accepting a pay increment, with one of every six (17%) redesig ning their way of life promptly, an official statement for the organization reads. So what are these Brits utilizing their extra pay for, you may inquire? Indeed, the appropriate response isn't exactly as hot as you would think. One of those new extravagances is a noon redesign - workers who have gotten late raises can bear the cost of a semi-distinctive sandwich from Pret A Manger presently, research found. Brits additionally will in general die their recently discovered wealth on costly liquor, and truly, who can fault them? Then, there are the cash insightful individuals who are contemplating what's to come. 71% kept up their extra pay for later, or maybe for retirement. It's astounding how rapidly we adjust - 19% of individuals said they wouldn't have the option to adapt monetarily if their pay level was diminished to the level it was before their compensation ascend, as indicated by the official statement. I assume once you get something, it's difficult to have it taken away. And so the greatest exercise from this exploration is that once we get that oft sought after increase in salary, we ought to likely consider what we do with it before we become one of those lunch and liquor insights. What's more, on the off chance that we do without a doubt get that extra 15%, we need to cling to it as though we're in the craving games, ensuring it with our lives.

5 Negotiation Tips for Way Too Nice People - Fairygodboss

5 Negotiation Tips for 'Excessively Nice' People - Fairygodboss In case you're additional pleasant naturally, the idea of entering an arrangement can feel like a significant endeavor. As somebody who believes themselves to be very clash opposed, I was inclined to requesting that my mother handle troublesome telephone discussions into my twenties. Then,I at long last understood that being decent doesn't need to be a shortcoming with regards to having significant talks. The meaning of 'exchange' is a conversation planned for agreeing. The watchword is conversation, not contention. Survey dealings thusly rather than as asking or contending was one way I figured out how to quit fearing the entire idea. In the event that the idea of arrangement despite everything makes you uncomfortable, follow these tips and better explore dealings while being excessively nice:1. Keep in mind: nothing is personal. If you're incredibly delicate or sympathetic, as most pleasant individuals may be, individual sentiments can engage in an arrangement before you know it. Wha t's more, regardless of whether it's not your sentiments getting injured, assumingthe other individual's feelings can likewise harm your argument. If you're arranging a compensation increasefor yourself and your supervisor begins lower than you expect, don't accept that it's fundamentally intelligent of your work. In the event that you are the supervisor in the circumstance and can't oblige a raise being asked of you, don't accept your representative will be vexed in the event that you can't meet them where they need. Business is business.2. Have an objective and a plan. The genuine negotiationshould never be your initial step. You ought to have the focuses you need to make in your meetingplanned out early and have an unmistakable objective as a main priority. Have reasons arranged for why you have the right to get what you need â€" you should have the option to help your case. For each pointyou have, attempt to consider one rejoinder, and think of a reaction to that as well. Having y our reactions arranged will help shield you from getting bothered mid-conversation and will remind you not to withdraw out of dread of being pushy or mean.3. Ask questions. In expansion to having your own calls attention to composed, have a lot of inquiries prepared to pose. This is significant in light of the fact that when you're additional decent essentially, addressing somebody can feel contentious. Posing inquiries is important to help structure the most ideal comprehension of the circumstance and will keep the discussion moving on the off chance that you begin to feel rattled.4. Put on a cheerful face.If you stroll into an exchange appearing to be apprehensive or vexed, you open yourself up for assault. Except if the individual you're haggling with happens to be more pleasant than you are, they can utilize your dread to support their certainty and destroy directly over you. Notwithstanding how you feel inside, it's basic that you anticipate a cool, quiet disposition. Know about your outward appearances in case you're meeting face to face, and ensure your tone stays even. Keep in touch and abstain from squirming or shaking to and fro. You don't need to appear to be forceful, however you should concentrate on anticipating a casual, confident air.5. Realize that not getting what you need isn't the finish of the world. One of the most frightening things about heading into negotiationscan be the 'what-uncertainties' skimming near. It's normal to promptly hop to the most dire outcome imaginable, yet attempt to consider arealistic perspective on what life after a 'no' might resemble. This will assist you with staying more settled all through your arrangement â€" fortunate or unfortunate â€" and wlll help youtake a horrible result in stride. On the off chance that you don't get the advancement you sought after or contract terms balanced precisely the manner in which you like, envision what your different alternatives could be, and approach if there may be space fo r another change later. Keep in mind, a negative result isn't the apocalypse â€" it just loans itself for another conversation.- - Kayla Heisler is a writer and Pushcart Prize-named artist. Make the Cover Letter Your Secret Weapon

Make the Cover Letter Your Secret Weapon Make the Cover Letter Your Secret Weapon Make the Cover Letter Your Secret Weapon The present post is composed by Kerry Sandberg Scott (envisioned), creator of the blog Clue Wagon and a HR proficient with 14 years' understanding. Kerry started her vocation in enlisting before filling in as the head of HR for various organizations. She has likewise prompted a few organizations and enrollment specialists on finding and recruiting the best competitors. How would I stand apart among each one of those different contender for the activity? It's an inquiry I hear a great deal of late. With a normal of six possibility for each employment opportunity in the United States, it's difficult to tell how to get bosses to see you. Everybody is searching for that exceptional stunt or enchantment codeword. Interestingly, extraordinary stunt or clear-cut advantage is directly in front of you: It's your introductory letter. Here are the reasons why: 1.It shows that you put some exertion into landing the position. At the point when I get 500 applications from a solitary promotion, I need some approach to make that stack increasingly reasonable. One way I do that is to dispose of the individuals who didn't try to incorporate an introductory letter. I've never gotten why, yet I generally have a sizeable level of competitors who do exclude an introductory letter, in any event, for significant level positions. This must be on the grounds that there are a few enrollment specialists out there who tell individuals they don't understand them. That might be valid (unfortunately), however you don't have any method of knowing whether the individual getting your resume and introductory letter is one of them. Indeed, even enrollment specialists who don't peruse them won't punish you for including one however loads of employing people will punish you in the event that you don't. In this way, ensure you endure that previously cut. 2.It shows you're proficient. I've never under any circumstance employed for an occupation where having the option to shape a sentence was certifiably not something to be thankful for. In my last occupation, for instance, we employed things handlers. You wouldn't quickly think about that as a composing work, however they need to leave notes, review episode reports, archive techniques, and that's just the beginning. Everybody in an office utilizes email, and we've every single gotten email from individuals whose composing abilities were so helpless we were unable to make sense of what they were stating. You don't should be Shakespeare, however you'll stick out on the off chance that you can give me you can compose unmistakably and compactly. That is an aptitude you requirement for each activity. 3.It gives me what your identity is. Many individuals have help composing their resumes. That implies when I see a resume that looks incredible, it could conceivably think about the competitor. Introductory letters are ordinarily composed at the hour of use, however, so the up-and-comers normally keep in touch with them without proficient assistance. At the point when you compose it, I show signs of improvement image of what your identity is, without the channel of your super-cleaned continue. 4.It allows you to clarify. Numerous individuals have exceptional conditions that require clarification. Perhaps you've been laid off from your last three employments, or you went through just a half year in your last gig, or you live out of state yet are intending to move here one month from now. The introductory letter offers you a chance to address likely worries before they torpedo your odds for a meeting. 5.It permits you to communicate. At the point when I went after my last position as head of HR for a little aircraft, the opposition was savage, and my introductory letter was one reason I got a meeting. In the letter, I disclosed to them why I needed to work there. I clarified how my auntie had been an airline steward for 40+ years, and I had grown up playing airline steward (well, alright, attendant it was the '70s). I generally longed for working for an aircraft, so the way that they realized this was my fantasy work was a piece of the explanation I was talked with, at that point employed. On the off chance that you have a purpose behind needing the activity past I need cash, utilize your introductory letter to let them know. I would prefer to employ somebody who truly needs to work for my organization than somebody who's simply searching for another check. A decent introductory letter can have a significant effect in helping you hang out in an ocean of competitors. Try not to skip or hold back on this significant advance!

Is Your Idea A Picture Book, Chapter Book Or Middle Grade Novel

by Hillary Homzie and Mira Reisberg You have an idea for a book! Yahoo! It’s one of those ideas that hits you so deep in your gut that you immediately scribble it into a little notebook. Your stomach bubbles, not in an indigestion sort of way, but in a nervous-happyâ€"giving-birth-to-a-germ-of-an-idea way. So how do you know if the idea is really picture book idea? What if it’s actually a chapter book or a middle grade novel, how do you know? Well, you don’t. Not right away. Of course, there are the obvious tip-offs that your idea is not a picture book. Take your idea through this list and see how it stacks up. These days picture books are generally geared for ages 2-7, although there are still picture books geared towards older elementary school, especially in nonfiction. Still, there’s no question that picture books are skewing younger with shorter word counts. If your primary character is in first through third grade (or ages 6-9), and is longer than 700 words, chances are you have a chapter book. And if your character is a fourth or fifth grader, chances are you have a younger middle grade novel (for ages 9-10). Now sometimes, often, older chapter books overlap with middle grade. Is Stuart Little an illustrated chapter book or an early middle grade? There is no hard and fast answer here, especially since the term chapter book has often been used in a general way to indicate a book for elementary school children that has chapters. However, often in publishing when we say chapter book, we often mean an early chapter book. Think Magic Tree House, Junie B. Jones or Geronimo Stilton. Of co urse, exceptions apply in everything (and really, would it be any fun if there weren’t?). But read on to help you determine where your idea fits best. Is your main character interested in something that will be appealing to younger children? E.g. If you’re story is about a child who’s excited about writing cursive, this means the main character is probably eight, and chances are it’s a chapter book story. If you’re an author/illustrator who has created lots of charming or edgy black and white illustrations to go with the story, chances are it’s a chapter book. Early middle grade books are also starting to feature illustrations more. This is great news for illustrators. Page from “Notebook of Doom” chapter book series by Troy Cummings Does your story occur over a year? Six months? You may have a chapter book or young middle grade on your hands. Now there are exceptions, picture books such as Diary of a Worm, which chronicles a character over a large period of time, or nonfiction picture books that occur over a long time like biographies. The majority of contemporary picture books take place over a brief period of time, while chapter or middle grade books usually have the luxury of taking their time with a story. Are your main characters animals or personified objects? Chances are it’s either a picture book or an early chapter book. Older kids generally want to look more sophisticated with “grown-up” books, but of course there are always exceptions, like the fresh middle grade graphic novel Low Riders in Space, which features a dog, an octopus, and a mosquito as main characters. Generally, if you like writing really short manuscripts with simple plots, often with animal characters on topics of interest for very young kids, you’re a picture book person. If you like the luxury of time and space for writing slightly longer books (from 1500 to 15,000 words) that still have pictures for slightly older kids ages 6-9, with or without animal characters, then you’re a chapter book writer (or maybe even an early reader person, but that’s a post for another day). And if you like much more complex plot lines, much longer storytelling, stories for early middle school kids, then you have an older middle grade idea. So…what kind of ideas do you have? Bonus info: Mira and Hillary will be co-teaching an outrageously fabulous interactive e-Course, the Chapter Book Alchemist, starting January 12th. Together and with the help of Mandy Yates, they make it ridiculously easy to write a chapter book or early middle grade during the 5 fun-filled weeks. KEEP IT COOL On the off chance that you've at any point been on a hot stodgy train, or plane, at that point you'll know how unsettled and languid this condition can make you. However, with regards to office space, there are such a large number of wellsprings of warmth (for example individuals and PCs) that should be represented as far as keeping the temperature sufficiently cool to center. Should You Start a Career in Recruiting Most selecting experts appear to have fallen into their profession by some coincidence, karma, or destiny. You dont frequently (if at any time) hear kids saying they need to grow up and be an enrollment specialist. Selecting likewise isnt normally the principal thing barely out of reach of your mind when youre pondering another profession way. So where do enrollment specialists originate from? How are they made? Are a few people simply destined to be enrollment specialists? Theres most likely that selection representatives are enthusiastic about what they do. They love finding extraordinary ability and making arrangements. The fulfillment of a decent match props them up. You must be on top of the business so as to make due in it. Also, perhaps that is not something you can learn or be educated. Its conceivable that a few people are simply inherently inclined to be selection representatives similarly that a few people are destined to be regular pioneers. So if youre contemplating beginning a vocation in enlisting, inquire as to whether you as of now have the accompanying characteristics or if a companion of yours is considering getting into the business, inquire as to whether they have these attributes that perhaps you underestimate in yourself: Put resources into Success: To be effective in enrolling, you dont must be an egotist or be never going to budge on progress, whatever that implies. Leaders dont just show up and expect to be followed - Leadership tips Viewpoint careers advice blog

Leaders don’t just show up and expect to be followed - Leadership tips Leaders ask a lot of their followers. People are asked to follow leaders into the unknown or the potentially perilous, change working habits or attitudes, and commit to the team and the organisation. Following a leader requires them to demonstrate faith, persevere through difficulty, cooperate, and collaborate. Without buy-in, however, people won’t follow a leader towards a change, commitment, nor collaboration. Why? Because buy-in requires trust and trust is the glue that binds followers to their leader. It creates committed individuals and prevents negative workplace experiences. Building versus commanding trust I recently visited two different teams within the same organisation. Both were led by capable individuals. In one location, the leader was actively working to build trust. She regularly held team meetings, and they all ate lunch together once a week. She kept the lines of communication open and was always as transparent as possible with the team, in good times and in bad. The team was engaged, informed, and working to add value to colleagues in other parts of the business. In the other team, people did not leave their office or cubicle. There was no spontaneous conversation in the hallways. People did not collaborate; rather they worked in silo, simply following instructions with no questions asked or reasons given. Unsurprisingly, their leader was uncommunicative and kept themselves behind closed doors, commanding trust from their team by virtue of their leadership title alone. Tasks were being accomplished, but the enthusiasm and engagement just was not there. How you can build trust as a leader Teams can’t be commanded to trust. Trust must be earned in ways that are meaningful to the team. As a leader, you can build trust with these actions: 1. Understand and meet the standards of others: We usually strive to meet our personal standards, the standards we judge others against. But what about meeting the standards of others? For example, if timeliness has been important in your organisation and you’re constantly late for meetings, you are not meeting the standards of your team, damaging their trust in your ability to live up to their standards. 2. Maintain a narrow “say-do” gap: Keep the difference between what you say you’re going to do and what you actually do, as narrow as possible. Be consistent. When you promise the report by Thursday, make it happen Thursday. If you constantly go back on your word, you will lose credibility as a leader. 3. Clearly communicate intent and expectations: Don’t assume or take for granted that people know what they are supposed to do. Communicate your expectations and your intentions consistently, and welcome questions or concerns. Ensure everyone is on the same page, so that people can act in ways that are consistent with the intent of the project even when you’re not around. 4. Hold people accountable: Accountability is hard, but it isn’t personal, or unfair. With clear, well communicated standards and expectations, holding people accountable simply entails comparing their performance to the standard. Holding people accountable also creates opportunities to develop individuals and elevate team performance. In summary, don’t just show up and expect to be followed. Leaders must earn trust through setting a standard of transparency, openness and efficiency, and upholding this standard themselves in everything that they say and do. Free Easy Resume Writing Templates Is Not Ideal

Free Easy Resume Writing Templates Is Not IdealMost people who make a living by writing resumes get lost in the web of free easy resume writing templates. The templates are great, but it's not like you can take all of them and use them to create a winning resume that will get you hired. It takes time and effort to find those templates and apply what you learn from them.In this article I'm going to talk about some of the mistakes I see when people want to use a free easy resume writing template. The first mistake is thinking that they can just download it and be on their way. It may be free, but most templates don't come cheap, and if you try to put together a winning resume with just one template you're wasting your time. The second mistake is thinking that all the details in the template are interchangeable. If you look at a resume template, and you notice that there's a blank space where you can write in your name, or in the date of your birthday, chances are you won't find any room for anything else. In fact, the template probably won't even display on the screen at all!The whole reason a template is free is because it provides an opportunity for you to use as many different sections and details as you want. You might find that you need to use a few templates to get a few different sections working. In that case, it might be better to spend the money to buy all of the same template, rather than trying to learn how to use all of the elements on the template. That can also save you some time in the long run.The third mistake I see is when people use one template and then try to fit it to a completely different format. Why do you think it was common for businesses to leave out spaces around dates and names? This isn't just a sloppy job, it's actually a mistake. Yourfree easy resume writing template needs to be flexible enough to fit any format possible.Even better, make sure that you include a way to customize the template. You don't have to be an expert, but it wouldn't hurt to customize a template so that it fits the exact format that you're going to use. It makes it so much easier to get started, and it's also less work later. Plus, with a custom template, you'll be able to save yourself a lot of time later on.The fourth mistake that I see often is people using a free easy resume writing template for two different purposes. They're trying to solve two problems at once, and it rarely works. The reason is that a template can only be used for one thing at a time. If you're looking for a resume template that makes it easy to insert a cover letter, and then later wants to be used for a cover letter, you're going to get frustrated by either problem. The best thing to do is to pick one format for your free easy resume writing template, and stick with it. You'll spend a lot less time trying to figure out how to do both things at the same time, and you'll be better off in the long run.

Discover The Inner Workings Of A Psychologist Career - Work It Daily

Find The Inner Workings Of A Psychologist Career - Work It Daily This is a genuine story as advised to JustJobs Academy which houses vocation meetings and quest for new employment guidance for experts in any industry. Visit to find out about how to secure the ideal position and how to get advanced once you land it. Is it accurate to say that you are keen on a clinician vocation? I am an authorized therapist. I have worked in the social administrations field for over two decades and have been authorized as an analyst for near two decades. I have two advanced educations, remembering a MA for Counseling Psychology and a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Right now, I am in private practice, yet I contract my administrations with a few organizations, including the police office, redresses, youngster administrations, Veterans Affairs and a network based advising focus. I see people, families and couples for private meetings and furthermore encourage bunch meetings. Analysts accomplish something beyond converse with individuals in their workplaces in private treatment. They likewise work in a wide assortment of settings and help individuals with a wide range of issues. Throughout the years, I have worked widely in school settings. Every now and again, analysts help distinguish learning and formative handicaps for kids from preschool to secondary young. Albeit a lot of what a clinician does is like a Marriage and Family Therapist or social specialist, there are unequivocal differentiations. A clinician can perform numerous indicative tests that other emotional wellness experts are not able to provide for customers. Marriage and Family Therapists principally give mentoring administrations and social laborers help individuals and families with the administrations they requirement for sound working, for example, lodging and access to clinical consideration. Every now and again, individuals mistake clinicians for specialists. Therapists are not clinical specialists. I don't be able to compose solutions for prescription, in spite of the fact that I have a lot of instruction and preparing about drugs and ailments that can influence psychological well-being. Analysts give analysis and advising administrations. Therapists give drug and clinical treatment. I normally talk with therapists in regards to prescription and physical wellbeing and I regularly get referrals from specialists for guiding administrations for their patients. Something I appreciate the most about my work is the assortment of individuals I work with. A lot of my work is presently centered around helping individuals adapt to injury. I work with returning troopers with the Department of Veterans Affairs, helping them reintegrate into non military personnel life and distinguishing issues, for example, post horrendous pressure issue (PTSD), despondency and uneasiness. I likewise work with the nearby police office with officials engaged with shootings and other savage occasions. Through the state's Victim-Witness Program, I work with customers who have seen or been associated with aggressive behavior at home, assault, burglary, savage mishaps and a wide range of other life occasions. I additionally work with families coordinating new relatives or mixing into another family gathering, couples who are getting hitched, undergrads who are sifting through their sexual character and kids figuring out how to manage school issues. These are only a couple of the sorts of individuals and issues I find in my office consistently. At the point when I initially started working in the field, I worked with people and families confronting interminable and hazardous ailment. Throughout the years, as my inclinations have changed and advanced, I have had the option to likewise draw customers who mirror those interests. As my abilities have improved or I have increased new instruments to use as mediations, I have additionally had the option to widen the kinds of customers I work with and the offices I work with. Most states expect analysts to have a doctorate-level qualification and numerous long periods of managed entry level position as a component of permitting. Permitting necessities fluctuate from state to state and a few states just require a Master's qualification for authorizing. Practically all states require sitting for authorizing tests. For my situation, there were two tests required before my permit was conceded. Notwithstanding my degrees, I likewise have a few postgraduate endorsements, which has helped me offer types of assistance to a bigger number of offices. One thing that has truly helped me is the assortment of settings I had the option to serve my temporary positions at. In my state, 3,000 hours of administered temporary job were required and a considerable lot of these assistant settings were volunteer unpaid positions. Be that as it may, by making the most of chances, I had the option to extend and learn new things. I worked at a few projects offering types of assistance to destitute youngsters and aggressive behavior at home casualties. I additionally worked with understudies, offering indicative types of assistance for learning incapacities. One of my most remunerating assignments was working a self destruction hotline for veterans, which gave me gigantic understanding into the things troopers face when they come back from organizations. What I have found over the course of the years is each progression in my learning as a clinician gives me another arrangement of abilities that I keep on utilizing all through my vocation. Something I have needed to get familiar with the most difficult way possible in my private practice is fundamental business aptitudes. As the psychological well-being field has transformed, I have needed to figure out how to do my own advertising to develop my business and request customers. Gone are the times of basically joining with various insurance agencies and leaving it alone realized you are ready to go. Today, I invest energy posting articles online on article catalogs, chatting on Twitter and posting on my Facebook page. I need to work to set up myself as an expert in my field since customers are more astute and exploration suppliers before planning arrangements. I have likewise needed to find out about dealing with my own accounts. I present my own cases to medical coverage organizations and solicitations to customers who don't utilize protection. I have likewise needed to figure out how to function with insurance agencies and illuminate possible new customers about the favorable circumstances and hindrances of utilizing medical coverage for their psychological wellness administrations. One thing I am grateful for in my past is my humanitarian effort. By working in the social administrations field first, I had a smart thought of what I was getting myself into when I chose to turn into an analyst. I had a decent essential comprehension of both the delight and the difficulties of working with individuals in passionate pain. Interview Question How do they make M Ms

Interview Question â€" How do they make M M’s Have you ever been in an interview where the interviewer asked you a question you had no idea how to answer? This happens to almost everyone at some point during the job search process. Why do companies ask questions that really blindside you? It’s simple: they want to see how well you “think on your feet.” Approximately seven years ago, I was asked a question during an interview and it went something like this: “Heather, how do you think they make M M’s?” Well, first of all, I hardly ever eat M M’s and I am certainly not a chocolate manufacturer. However, I knew they were testing me to find out how quickly I could develop a coherent, plausible answer. This question obviously had nothing to do with the job. I was not going to be producing M M’s if I landed the position. My answer was approximately the following: “I believe the chocolate shells are loaded into a machine and they are simply hinged on one side (like a clam). As they come down the machine belt, chocolate is squirted inside the shells, and the shell is heat sealed. Finally, a stamp comes down and stamps the “M” on top of the candy. Was I right with my answer? I have no idea, but it is highly doubtful. However, the important thing was that the answer was creative, relatively realistic, and I came up with it on-the-spot. The company was seeking someone that could troubleshoot issues and develop problem solving skills in a quick manner. To this day, I still don’t know how they make M M’s. Does it matter? Probably not I got the job and didn’t need to look into becoming a chocolate manufacturer.

Should You Put Your Job Title on Tinder 5 Women Share Why They Do (or Don't) Essayist is the activity title I put in my dating application profiles. I have never explained much past that as far as including the organization name or anything. I will in general embrace a toning it down would be ideal mindset on free dating applications. Some portion of this is done on the grounds that I dont figure I should make it simple for aliens to know as long as I can remember story before they have met me. For what reason would I go out on the town on the off chance that they had a deep understanding of me?The other part, the staggering part, is that everybody you experience on dating applications is an outsider. It isn't hard to coordinate with somebody and assume that they are all that they present in their profile. In the event that the dates dont work out that desire for who they thought you were (and the other way around) breaks against the real world. The vast majority proceed onward a short time later, yet others get hung up over what occurred. They know a conside rable amount about you vis- - vis whats shared on your application, and may save you on their radar for quite a while after. So, would it be advisable for you to include your work environment data in your dating application profile, or forget about it altogether? 3 Personal Branding Theses For The New World of Work - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

3 Personal Branding Theses For The New World of Work - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career 1.   The internet has forced everyone to become a marketer. Gone are the days when only college marketing majors and entrepreneurs had to know how to use marketing to build brands. These days, the internet has enabled everyone with a pulse and some ambition to take advantage of this growing platform.   Its all about survival of the fittest online and the best marketers, with the right message, will get the most attention and thus the most business opportunities.   Of course everyone needs an online presence and most people that you know at minimum have a Facebook profile.   The issue most people have is how to become an active contributor online, while balancing their time with their other commitments. The requirement now and moving forward is that your brand must be appear online every single day, with few exceptions. This marketing commitment didnt exist years ago, but now it does because the competition is everyone, everywhere.   Thats right, youre competing for air time with people in Australia, Brazil, etc.   There is a lot of marketing pressures on you because just having profiles online isnt enough anymore.   Thats just the ticket to entry.   Marketing should be instilled into individuals at a younger age because its becoming more part of our lives, not just how it effects our decisions, but how it can be leveraged for career success. 2.   The economy has forced everyone to become an expert. The economy is much different now than it was a decade ago. The amount of competition there is for just about anything is jaw dropping.   From trying to get into college to getting your first job upon graduating and then climbing the corporate ladder or building a business, the stakes are higher and the failure rate is greater.   Expertise has become something referred in our society.   Corporations pay premiums on it and recruiters salivate over it.   By not being an expert in a specific niche, it will be near impossible for you to stand out and be known for something, regardless of your current situation. Luckily, a new solution has become accessible to all in the form of a published book. The fastest way to become an expert is to become an author. Years ago, it would have been difficult to recommend the publishing approach to people, but the internet has given rise to new publishing practices that have been embraced.   Self-publishing is on the rise and now there are numerous services, such as LuLu.com and   iUniverse, that can get your book on Amazon.com for distribution.   What can a book do for you?   You will get quoted in the press, consulting and speaking gigs and become more attractive to companies that are looking to hire thought leaders.   A few decades from now, the term blog will be powerful enough to make some a true expert in their field as well.   Right now, a blog is perceived as too ammature to carry the same weight. 3.   The recruiting system has forced everyone to become a networker. Corporate recruitment has been a broken system for a while now. It has also inspired some of my most controversial posts, such as how people shouldnt submit resumes through job boards. From the company perspective, they are trynig to find the best possible talent at the lowest possible cost and risk to the business.   From the individual perspetive, you are trying to get the highest paid job and in a position with the most opportunity for advancement.   As you can see, this can be a conflicting situation for both parties.   Also, due to the sheer amount of resumes that are submitted for jobs each day, its becoming almost impossible to stand out. Im a firm believer that the size of your network, not just the quality, will be a major component on how jobs are gotten in the future. Companies understand the correlation between network size/strength and productivity/business development.   Someone with a relatively small network cant open up as many doors and thus is less valuable to a company thats looking to grow.   Someone with a small network will have to worker harder to find and understand key concepts than the ladder.   Your network is visible for the first time in history.   I can review your social accounts to find out how connected you are.   How many Facebook friends do you have?   Twitter followers?   LinkedIn contacts? Blog subscribers? Dont you see where all of this is going?   Those with the most robust networks will be the most successful.   A recruiter that stumbles upon two equal candidates will take the candidate with the larger network every single time.   Network size is going to become part of how were judge d because of the amount of competition and visibility of our connections online.

7 Breakfast Resolutions for the New Year

7 Breakfast Resolutions for the New Year With many of us following such busy schedules, breakfast can often become a rushed affair, if not skipped entirely. But, as the most important meal of the day and much-needed fuel for your body, it deserves to be taken seriously. So, if you’re someone who could benefit from making some healthy changes to your morning routine in the new year, here are a few breakfast resolutions to keep in mind. Don’t skip it Research on breakfast habits has revealed that 1 in 5 people skip breakfast on a regular basis. Sure, it might feel like your morning schedule is chaotic enough without having to factor in time for breakfast, but it’s worth it for the sake of your health. By skipping breakfast, you could be increasing your risk of health problems, such as type 2 diabetes and migraines, so it’s in your best interest to start your day with some nutritious grub. All you need to do is set your alarm 15 minutes earlier! Prepare something the night before Free up your time in the morning by whipping something together for your brekkie the night before. Dishes like overnight oats or yoghurt and chopped fruit are easy to put together and refrigerate overnight, so it’ll be ready and waiting for you when you roll out of bed. Fill yourself up Not only can skipping breakfast or grabbing something on the go lead to unhealthy eating habits, but a grumbling belly can be distracting at work too! Avoid reaching for unhealthy snacks mid-morning by eating something filling for brekkie that will tide you over until lunchtime. You’ll feel more satisfied and more focused for it. Swap coffee for herbal tea While coffee consumption is perfectly fine for you in moderation, many report feeling sluggish after the caffeine boost has worn off. Even when drank in the morning, it can impact some people’s sleep pattern and quality. English Breakfast Tea, on the other hand, only contains a third of the caffeine of a cup of coffee. More so, some herbal teas contain just minimal traces of caffeine and can offer health benefits such as improved digestion, boosted immune system, stress relief and more. Eat something nutritious It’s the most important meal of the day, so make sure your breakfast is nutritious and is going to give you the energy boost you need. Protein is the ideal option, as it takes more time to digest and will leave you feeling full for longer. Combine it with high fibre food to keep your digestion working at its best. Some healthy breakfast options include eggs on wholemeal toast and unsweetened cereal with low-fat yoghurt and fruit. Try something new If you feel uninspired by your standard breakfast options, why not branch out and try something new? It could be a brand-new recipe or just mixing things up with some new ingredients. For example, there are tonnes of ways to enjoy a bowl of oats, from banana and blueberry flavour to figs and honey. If you’re feeling experimental, you could even substitute your oats for quinoa or pop some chia seeds in with your oats for an added protein supplement. Take your time When you’re in a hurry in the morning, it can be tempting to gobble your breakfast down as quickly as possible, but this can lead to indigestion. Instead, chew consciously and take your time over your food. You’ll enjoy it more and it will be better for your digestion. Ready to get 2020 off to a healthy start? If you follow these breakfast tips, you’re sure to feel more energised and ready to cease the day (and year). A healthy breakfast equals a healthy lifestyle! Beware scam jobs University of Manchester Careers Blog

Beware scam jobs University of Manchester Careers Blog Once again there is an article in the news warning that jobseekers are vulnerable to scams. We see graduates every year who get suspicious but there may be many more who unwittingly get scammed. International graduates can be especially vulnerable as they are often unfamiliar with UK recruitment practices and dont always realise that they have been taken advantage of until it is too late. Some can be conned out of money, or not be paid for work they have done.   Some can be the victim of identity theft. Some can even be tricked into criminal activities. Dont let it happen to you! Familiarise yourself with some of the common types of scams so that you know what to look out for. When you are desperately looking for a job it is natural to upload your CV to lots of different websites and to apply to opportunities from many different sources. Scammers trawl CV posting sites looking for likely targets be wary of unsolicited emails offering work. If you want to upload a CV online, never include personal information that can be used for identity theft (address, date of birth etc). Consider using a special webmail account just for the CV, so that you will know that any email received at that account is in reply to your online CV. Scammers post advertisements all over the web be especially careful about applying for jobs on websites where   information is not vetted (e.g. Gumtree). How can you tell if an opportunity is genuine or not? These tips come from the Spotting scam jobs section of the Careers Service website. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If a company asks you to ring a premium rate number as the only way to apply, be very wary. Be suspicious if directed to different numbers, websites or a different company name than the one in the advert you responded to. This may be done to hide a bad reputation or a scam. Avoid schemes where you make money by signing up new members to sell for you. Make sure you ask questions about the job if you are unsure. Do not be pressurised to sign up to anything you do not fully understand. Do not part with any money unless you understand exactly what you are getting. When you first apply do not provide bank or financial information, passport or similar identification. These might be required later, but only if you get the job. If in doubt: Do not apply for the job Do not agree to sign anything Do not pay for any services on offer Do not return any contact with the organisation Ask the Careers Service for a second opinion If you think you might have been the victim of a scam report it so that the police and/or the Office of Fair Trading can try to prevent it happening to other people. You will also be able to get advice on recovering money you might have lost.   See our page on getting advice about scams.
